“To make the market a place people will want to come back to, it needs ambiance, vitality, joy and variety. There is something about the performing arts that has the power to draw people in and create connections,” says the market’s entertainment coordinator, JoAnn Sabourin.
An information meeting for entertainers will be held on April 28, 2010 at the Manchester Pub (546 Ouellette Avenue) from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sabourin will explain the scheduling system, sign up performers, and get feedback from attendees. Performers can be of any age and multicultural acts are encouraged to apply.
Sabourin hopes to attract more than just musicians. “Children’s entertainment, sketch artists, dance groups…these are just a few suggestions. I know there is amazing talent in Windsor; we would love to have that at the market.”
The market does not offer financial remuneration but does offer performers a place to hone their skills, perform for the public, promote their act, and sell their SWAG. Performers are encouraged to “put out the hat” for donations and tips. With approximately 7,000 visitors last season, the market provides a wonderful opportunity for local entertainers to get exposure.
