What Could Have Been Windsor

Re: the Windsor Star’s String of zero percent tax hikes likely over.

As they raise your taxes, folks, imagine Windsor in an alternate universe where Eddie Francis and his sycophants, including Drew Dilkens, were never born.

Mayor Marra led the process of building Windsor Arena (no WFCU in this world) on the downtown western super anchor site, which in turn sparked a renaissance of commercial development surrounding it.

Council had no inclination to build a kiddie aquatic center or Olympic pool in its place, nor was there any interest in a white elephant hanger at the airport. But, they did prudently embark on modest renovations and expansion of City Hall to keep it functional for decades to come and, otherwise, made significant investments in road and sewer infrastructure improvements.

In fact, mayor Marra was pleased to announce that the 5″ major rainfall this past fall resulted in very minor damage, to private properties in traditionally problematic east end areas, because of these wise upgrades.

Windsor’s books are solid, its municipal departments well funded but efficient and, as a result of Council’s laser-like focus on only the basic services for which their constituents truly appreciate, the city will remain revenue neutral for decades to come with no need to raise local tax rates.
